how can we meet your projects needs?

PCB materials

To make a custom PCB, you need to know all the materials needed and what purpose they serve. The following are some of the circuit board materials you can choose from depending on your needs:

Copper

This material serves as the base of the PCB and determines its electrical properties. Depending on the design, PCBs may have one or two copper layers. Candor uses premium copper to ensure optimal conductivity and reliability, particularly for heavy copper circuit boards that require additional durability for demanding applications.

Metal-Backed Copper Boards

Once the copper foundation is established, metal-backed designs, such as those incorporating aluminum oxide epoxy, provide a significant advantage in heat management. This material offers a higher heat transfer rate compared to a traditional prepreg-style backing, making it an ideal choice for devices operating under high thermal loads.

Aluminum

For the most effective thermal dissipation, aluminum PCBs are the best. It contains a thermal clad layer which efficiently disperses heat, all while cooling the components. You’ll have a more effective performance from your PCB with aluminum.

PCB Board Types

Choosing the right PCB type is crucial as it directly impacts the functionality and compatibility of the device. Candor offers a range of options tailored to specific design needs:

Single Layer

The simplest and most cost-effective option, making them ideal for devices where design density or space constraints are not critical. These boards are often used for straightforward applications that prioritize simplicity and budget over complexity.

Double Sided

Providing additional versatility by offering components on both sides of the board, making it suitable for devices that require more components while maintaining compactness. They strike a balance between complexity and affordability.

Heavy Copper Circuit

Designed for applications requiring exceptional durability and heat resistance. These boards feature thick copper layers that can handle higher currents and temperatures, making them ideal for industrial and power-intensive uses.

Flexible boards

Essential for designs requiring adaptability or the ability to fit into tight, irregular spaces. Commonly used in industries like aerospace and medicine, flexible boards allow for more creative and space-efficient designs.

Rigid-flex boards

Combine the rigidity of traditional PCBs with the flexibility of adaptable boards. These hybrid boards are perfect for devices with both structured and movable sections, offering unparalleled versatility for intricate or custom configurations.

PCB Design

Proper design ensures the PCB performs as expected and remains manufacturable.

Candor has many PCB design limits that we can build within. These limits help keep your board working correctly and avoid any issues during the manufacturing process. It’s important to remember the following:

  • Width and Spacing
You should follow the x/y rules, which means the minimum trace spacing.
  • Thickness and Size
The size and thickness of the board should match the design of a particular product.
  • Color and Finish
The solder mask creates the colour of the board. We use the solder mask according to the colour you want
    • Green: most common colour for a PCB. Clear visibility of the components.
    • Red: a bold and professional look.
    • Blue: aesthetically pleasing and highlights the components effectively.
    • Black: a unique solder mask that can be either glossy or matte.
    • White: used for a crisp, clean look.
    • Yellow: a unique style that is clean and offers visibility.
    • Purple: used for more expensive designs.

Other PCB design specifications that you can request include:

  • Via Plugging
No mask on via, partially plugged, plugged mask, non-conductive or conductive epoxy.
  • Silkscreen Colour
  • Liquid Photo Image
  • Board Finishes
Edge plating, conductive carbon ink, conductive via fill, hot air solder level, immersion material.
