Mechanical Drilling Blind/Buried Vias
Mechanical drilling is usually used for through vias, there are two ways of drilling blind and buried vias using laser drilling which is the conventional way of doing things or mechanical drilling. Using contact drilling we are able to achieve precise drilling depths without resorting to a laser, which can be expensive and requires pre and post processing. Laser ablation can cause several problems with yield and field failures if not cleaned properly, adding cost and time. Control depth drilling uses a combination of linear scale, and electrical detection of copper surface of the panel. Once the surface has been detected, the origin is set and depth starts to be counted.
